  • How to tell if I have a cracked head or bad valves, stem seals etc..? - 1 post

    updated 2 months ago

    Latest by David Barillaro:

I have a 1995 Audi 90 Quattro Sport with the 12 valve V6. It has 190k miles and in the last month began smoking from the exhaust and burning oil heavily. I came on quite suddently. My mechanic tested the coolant for exhaust gasses and it was positive. I haven’t lost any coolant

  • Waiting until car idles down before driving - 3 posts

I don’t wait as long as Ron suggests but I probably wait 30 secs or so. I put on my seatbelt and such after starting. I do back out of the garage and it sits there waiting to ensure the garage door closes.I use a PO Box and only go about 300-400 yards

  • Fuel Stabilizer - 2 posts

Yes, but do you really want to spend the extra money if the gas is not going to be stored for a period of time. On the other hand most fuel stabilizers add additional additives in the mix, so you get other benefits. Your money and your choice!

  • Here’s a good one, Now I see something called the Fuel Doctor that suppose to increase fuel mileage. This device plugs into the cigarette lighter and suppose to smooth out the ripple voltage therefore making amazing mpg and power. for the price of 80.00 I will sit back and watch. This unit has 2 lights a green and red led
so they state keep it in the green and watch for higher mpg. I say just keep a light foot on the pedel and watch the mpg go up. Every year we see new devices that come and go away in time.

  • I have a question pertaining to a 2006 VW Jetta TDI ”Diesel Edition.” I would like to convert the headlights to HID Xenon or similar and would like to find a kit compatible with the bulb out feature on my car. So far I have not had any luck. Although I would prefer not to overspend, I want a quality kit, so, rewally, money is not a real problem. Also, now, it seems, most kits are DOT legal, would like a DOT Legal kit.

    Thanks from Ed

  • This question pertains to a lawn mower engine. Typically Briggs and Stratton recommends using a detergent 30 weight or 10W-30 weight oil in their small, air-cooled, 3.5 HP engines. I have beern using SAE30 detergent oil. Is it for better for the engine if I buy oil specificallty labeled for lawn mower engines (that cost’s more) or automotive engine oil of the same weigh. My thinking is, that perhaps, oil marked for lawn mowers may have more Zinc to protect the engine better. Also my lawn mower burns about an ounce of oil every mowing. Is this about normal for such an engine? Can I use SAE40 weight oil instead to help slow the burning?

  • Where can one get an oil analysis?

  • My daughter’s 2006 honda CRV has 45,000 miles. I wanted to keep the nexxt service cost down and do some of the simple things myself. Are the canin air filters and the intake filter easy for a fairly handy person to do? I know where to find the intake filter but how do you replace the cabin filters?
